A section of Parents from slum areas are raising concern over the soliciting tuition fee from students by teachers.
Wanjiku Hidaya from Sofia in Majengo slums says teachers are still asking pupils to go for holiday tuition and in addition bring money despite the government terming Holiday tuition illegal.
Hidaya alleges that students who pay the fee are given special treatment compared to those who do not a move she says infringes on their rights.
She says many parents from the slums are unable to make ends meet and forcing them to pay for tuition is an extra burden to them.
Former Education Minister the late Mutula Kilonzo abolished extra tuition during holidays saying that children should be allowed to engage in extra-curricular activities as the school curriculum can be covered during the normal school days.
