Barely a month after the National Transport and Safety Authority (NTSA) enforced the 50Km/h speed regulation on motorists, the authority has promised to introduce another new traffic rules targeting heavy commercial vehicles.
According to the authority’s Director General Francis Meja, most of the recent road accidents witnessed in the country are caused by trailers and trucks.
Speaking during a stakeholders meeting with the authority, he says the rules will be a major step towards reducing road carnage in our major highways.
“Of late we have noticed that behind any fatal accident, a heavy commercial vehicle is involved and as we all know these heavy commercial vehicles are currently not under any regulations, it is time they were put under regulations so that we are able to control them in an effort to adress those challenges” says Meja
He however lauds the introduction of Alcoblows which he says has reduced incidents of drunk driving especially in the major cities.
