A middle aged woman in Mathare slums almost lost her arm to the brutality of the police in the night of the Mathare by election.
Margaret Njenga was allegedly encountered by GSU officers while celebrating Stephen Kariuki’s win after the results were announced.
She says the police beat her and her nine friends for allegedly disturbing the peace of Kenyans and that of the president through their celebrations.
” I tried pleading for mercy from the police but they told us that our victory celebrations were annoying President Uhuru Kenyatta’s peace hence the punishment,” says Njenga.
She says she suffered fractures from the police beating and has since been unable to go to the hospital due to lack of money.
Njenga says her salon business has also come to a standstill following her sick arm that has not healed up to date.
“Right now i cannot go to work and my salon business is at the moment closed because my arm has never healed from the fractured. How do these police want me to survive?” poses Njenga.
Njenga ‘s children have also been unable to go back to school due to lack of school fees.
She says she reported the matter to the police and no action has since been taken.
