Kenya Body Building Federation (KBBF) is the only body in Kenya mandated to sanction, regulate and control all body building and wellness competitions in the country, chairman Christantus Omedo warned in Nairobi, Tuesday.
Speaking after a board meeting held the previous day, Omedo said “we at the federation are trying to curb the menace by organizers who come in just to make profits and exploit our athletes. We have to come up with serious structures involving strict rules that will ensure body builders are not exploited.”
In an exclusive interview with ghetto radio, Omedo also revealed that, “during the National office meeting, it was agreed that three major events -Mr.Nairobi, Mr.Carnivore and MR.KENYA had to be given a priority.With that I announce to Kenyans that the events are back.We want our athletes to start from grass root upwards though, with such major events, their confidence levels will be highly enhanced as there is something to look up to as they grow in the sport.”
The meeting also rolled out the federation’s calendar of events which included MR. Nairobi scheduled to take place on 13th December 2014 in Nairobi at a venue to be announced later and Omedo gave hope to lovers of the sport when he quipped, “We agreed that in between these events ,we shall also slot in our calendar for workshops, seminars, clinics and Expos on various programs that will help us create awareness on issues of health, Wellness and Fitness to all Kenyans,” adding that body building is not just about big muscles, but living a healthy lifestyle.
The meeting also agreed that Mombasa Branch will be having their event on 15th Nov.2014 only for coastal athletes and in his conclusion Omedo urged all interested lovers of the sport to join KBBF “All the athletes who have not registered please do so because you will not be allowed to take part in any event if you are not a member, also it is important to avoid the last minute rush.” He said
