First Lady Margaret Kenyatta has been named the 2014 United Nations Person of the Year.
Mrs Kenyatta received the award for her efforts in the Beyond Zero campaign which seeks to end maternal and child mortality rate.
The award was given to Mrs. Kenyatta during the United Nations Day celebrations at Gigiri, Nairobi.
“I am truly honoured to be named the recipient of this highly regarded and prestigious award,” she said
The first lady stated that seven fully kitted mobile clinics have so far been delivered in seven counties across the country.
According the first lady the seven counties which include Homabay, Isiolo and Wajir are the highest in maternal mortality rate.
She also thanked Kenyans for supporting her in her efforts to end the maternal mortalities in Kenya.
