Inspector General of Police David Kimaiyo on Thursday directed officers to flush out radical youth who have occupied a Mombasa mosque for six days after kicking out its moderate imam.

It was not immediately known when an operatoon would begin to clear extremists who have taken over Masjid Swafaa at Mwandoni in Kisauni Constituency.

Friday is the day of prayer when mosques are crowded. Masjid Swafaa was seized last Friday.

“Our officers have been asked to move in quickly and restore law and order in the mosque,” said Kimaiyo.

According to the star, police are anxious to avoid a confrontation like the one that occured on February this year at Masjid Musa in Majengo.

Armed police raided the mosque and arrested 129 people including women and minors.
