Nine girls from Mathari Old Primary School have failed to turn up for their KCPE exams which begun today.
Four of the girls are said to have eloped with their male partners and one is said to have given birth before the exams started.
The school’s head teacher Mary Koine says the whereabouts of the four others are yet to be known because their families could not give information about them.
“One of them gave birth then the others ran away with their boyfriends and disappeared from school and home,” says Mrs Koine.
“Their friends tell us they got married but none is revealing where they actually are,” she adds.
Mrs. Koine says the one who gave birth could not sit for her exams because she had developed some complications after birth.
“She told us she had a problem with one of her boobs… it was swollen. When we analysed the situation we found that it was very serious and asked her to come back to school next year and join Standard eight,” said Koine.
According to Koine the number of girls who have failed to turn up for the final exams have risen drastically.
