Sagana all saints academy girls high school on Saturday participated in the first day of the Taikan martial arts two day workshop in Nairobi.
Led by deputy principal Joseph Murimi Karani, the school sent one hundred girls to the workshop. ” My main aim to bring over these girls is to boost their self esteem. This sport since started at our school has seen the drastic drop of indiscipline cases and great improvement in academics,” said the teacher who also doubles up as the karate coach.
Doctor Lucy Njogu from Linton Pharmacy teaching at the workshop said, “ Karate is great for self defense. But we also need to train our mind, body and soul to be healthy. This sport instills discipline, but of great importance is to keep diseases such as high blood pressure, heart failure, reduction of asthma, gout and diabetes at bay as well as strengthening ligaments.”
Caleb Atemi, CEO and founder Taikan martial arts academy aims to promote wellness and fitness through Karate. “We hope to spread this gospel around the country. Karate can be used as a fan sport for healthy bodies and minds as well as keeping diseases at bay.”
The two day workshop in Nairobi aims to attract over five hundred participants. Atemi is urging Nairobi residents to attend the workshop with the theme of ‘security and health for a good life’.
