The son of Brazilian legend footballer Edson Arantes do Nascimento Pele has been detained after being freed from jail over his alleged links with local drug traffickers.
Edinho Cholbi do Nascimento was given a 33-year jail term in July for laundering money from the proceeds of drug trafficking.
The 44-year-old was released a week later after his lawyers lodged an appeal.
Edinho was arrested again on Tuesday while making an obligatory monthly visit to a police station in Praia Grande, near the southeastern city of Santos.
Pele is yet to comment on his son’s latest arrest, but Edinho’s lawyers have made a request to see their client’s immediate release, per the aforementioned report.
The reason for his detention after being granted conditional release was unclear.
The former Santos Goalkeeper pleaded not guilty to trafficking charges but admits to a drug addiction.
Pele played in three World Cup-winning teams for Brazil and is widely regarded as one of football’s greatest players.
Edinho was a goalkeeper for Santos in the 1990s.
