The High Court on Tuesday sentenced a 59-year-old American man to 50 years in prison for child pornography.
The prosecution was seeking a life sentence for Terry Ray Krieger, who had confessed to circulating obscene videos and images of children on the Internet.
Krieger, alias Babytoddler123, had boasted of luring girls as young as four years old in an online post.
He was arrested at Olepolos in Ngong, Kajiado county, after Interpol investigators in Germany and the US informed police of the presence of a child abuser in Kenya.
Interpol said he was exchanging pictures with other paedophiles abroad.
Krieger admitted that he circulated the images of the children and obscene publications between May 2013 and October this year, using electronic media platforms GigaTribe, Yahoo Chat and Skype.
He had earlier denied the charges but changed his plea before Milimani senior principal magistrate Joseph Karanja on November 22. Facts read out in court at the time stated that the elderly child pornographer was arrested in the US in April 1999 and jailed but was released in 2005.
“The accused is beyond reform. This court must send a clear message to him and other child porn offenders,” state lawyer Duncan Ondimu told the magistrate.
Ondimu urged the court to take into consideration the vulnerability of his victims, saying Krieger had not shown any remorse.
