Fahamu Trust program officer Mwangi Maina says cases of violation of different women rights have increased in the recent past in the country.
This follows reported incidences where police officers have allegedly violated the women when they report such incidences to different police posts across the country.
Mwangi says the violation by police has created a wave of fear among the women in Kenya who are clearly aware of their rights.
“But people actually do know when their rights are being violeated, the only thing that people don’t know is what to do when their rights are being violated because when you go to the police there is a potential of being violated even withing the police institution, when you go to the village elders, these are men so you don’t get rights there. When you approach issues of rights of women you approach them in a holistic manner you have to involve men in women’s rights” he added.
Maina says the Government should enforce a law that will strictly take measures into the security concerns of women.
