Prison warders in Kisii County yesterday shot and injured four prisoners who were trying to escape from custody.
A manhunt is ongoing for six others who escaped.
The four were part of a group of 24 inmates being transported from Ogembo Law Courts to Kisii prison last evening.
According to the Nation that the incident ocurred in an area known as Itumbe . Kisii County Commander said the inmates started causing commotion in the prison van as they were on transit.
In the commotion some inmates unsuccessfully tried to snatch a gun from one of the warders.
Ten inmates who had not been handcuffed jumped out of the van and went uphill and took off.
Soon after the police opened fire and shot four of the prisoners as the six escaped.
One police officer was injured and taken to the Chrismartian hospital while injured inamates were rushed to Kisii level 6 for treatment.
