A school driver in Nyamaiya Village, Kisii died after drinking a concoction prepared by witchdoctors, police boss Simon Kiragu said.
According to the Daily Nation, the deceased volunteered to drink the portion on Sunday to prove that he did not steal books from the school.
Mr. Kiragu said the school’s director and his deputy enlisted the services of the witchdoctors to help catch the thief.
“ The driver was dared by these two gentlemen to prove his innocence by drinking the mixture,”Mr Kiragu said.
“The 33 year old collapsed and died immediately after the drink,” he added.
This angered local residents who set the school bus and the deputy director’s house on fire.
Mr. Kiragu said the deputy director has been arrested, while the director and the witchdoctors have gone into hiding.
