Information and communications cabinet secretary Dr. Fred Matiang’i has warned Kenyans against using social media to incite hatred and tribal animosity.
Matiang’i says he regrets that the level of abuse the social media has risen to tribal and chronic proportions in the country.
Matiang’i said the government is willing and ready to reason with issues that Kenyans want addressed adding that there is deliberate effort to estrange the character of government on social media.
He pointed out that while the government will ensure all freedoms enshrined in the constitution are respected, some people are abusing that freedom by posting statements that alienate the government.
Dr. Matiang’i further emphasized the need for Kenyans to separate themselves from statements that are meant to divide the country and instead focus on matters of national cohesion.
He called on Kenyans to exercise restraint, sobriety and responsibility even as they engage on social media.
