shabaabA family in Majengo slums is agonizing over the disappearance of their son who went missing in the hands of police two years ago.

Abdalla Aziz Muchiri was arrested by police attached to the Anti Terrorism Police Unit in the company of his two friends on suspicion of being a member of the Al Shabaab terror group.

According to Muchiri’s sister Fatuma Wanjiru, their brother was later taken to the Kileleshwa police station and detained there.

“Muchiri’s friends had earlier on gone to Somalia and came back. So when they got back, they started hanging out with my brother and that is when they got arrested,” says Wanjiru.

“My brother is not Al Shabaab, he just got arrested by irresponsible officers who failed to do their investigations diligently,” she says.

Wanjiru says after a couple of visits to the police station their brother later disappeared mysteriously from the police custody never to be seen again.

“For two weeks he stayed at the police station but later on disappeared. Our frantic efforts to get the police to explain to us where he went to have been fruitless,” she adds.

Wanjiru says the association of their brother and consequently his disappearance has affected their lives very negatively. Because everywhere they go they are treated with suspicion.

“There is this specific supermarket (name withheld) i cannot not enter, because they always look at us with suspicion,” says Wanjiru.
