Voters started casting their ballot in Homa Bay senatorial by-election Thursday morning amid tight security.
There are long queues in most of the polling stations in the county as residents elect their senate representative following the death of the late Otieno Kajwang’ last year.
Voting started at 6am in most polling stations and no incidents have so far been reported.
More than 2,000 police officers were on Wednesday deployed in the county after intelligence reports warned that chaos could disrupt the by-election.
On Wednesday, acting Inspector-General of Police Samuel Arachi instructed the officers to arrest those found breaking the law and warned that culprits would be held “personally responsible” for violence.
