Six years ago, Ghetto Radio’s Top presenter Bonoko would sleep in gutters and eat left overs from Kipande’s Mutura Butchery in Ngara. Bonoko never thought that once in his lifetime, he would own and drive a Subaru.
And that’s just how God works, after Ghetto Radio took Bonoko in back in 2011, trained him and included him in their monthly payroll.
He has now stood against all odds and surely proved that anything is possible under the sun. His hard work has paid off.
When I called him Yesterday to confirm the Good News, Bonoko had this to say in excitement;
“He he he he Mukami, Nani Amekuambia? Ni ukweli lakini bado sijaichukua,nikiichukua nitakutumia picha.Lakini ni Subaru.”
As we celebrate and congratulate Bonoko’s Mega accomplishment, check out things you don’t know about him;
1. His real names are James Kang’ethe ‘Tete’ Kimani .
2. Bonoko was born on the streets. As a baby he slept with his mother under the verandas, as an independent street kid he preferred other places, like the gutter under the highways.
3. Bonoko has ran away twice from special schools after the government started a programme to pick kids up from the streets in 2011
4. Bonoko was once forced to walk for a week from Kakamega in Western Kenya to Nakuru, on his way back to Nairobi.
5. Whilst in the streets Bonoko’s biggest rival was a street cop nick named Kisi wa Central who allegedly killed Bonoko’s best friend Kipande- a young butcher who sold mutura, a traditional Kikuyu sausage, on the streets for urinating in an alley and planted a fake gun near his body, a ‘bonoko’ in local slang.
6. The name Bonoko came into existence after he witnessed Kipande being shot dead and offered to tell the truth to press.
7. His voice started been used by DJ’s mixes before Ghetto Radio Family adopted him and trained him to be one of the most sort out Radio Presenter in Kenya.
His New Subaru is a big achievement and also an inspiration to many out there.
