Gor Mahia landed a mega sponsorship deal with one of the world’s biggest airlines, Qatar Airways.
Gor’s financial troubles will soon fizzle away. The club has been struggling on the financial front since the end of their sponsorship deal with dairy firm Tuzo but now there is a light at the end of the tunnel as it is set to sign a deal worth Kshs 100 million a year with the airline.
This comes just as the club are currently struggling to raise at least Kshs 4 million to facilitate their trip to Congo – Brazzaville for a CAF Champions League return leg clash against AC Leopards on Sunday 5 April.
Recent reports states that k’ogalo has raised less than ten percent of Sh5.2million they need to honor Sunday’s Caf Champions League.
K’Ogalo chairman Ambrose Rachier has now expressed fears that the team may not travel.
A poorly attended fund-raiser at Nairobi Club on Tuesday night raised only Sh511, 000 of the required Sh5.2million and speaking afterwards Rachier admitted it will be difficult to travel to Congo.
Rachier admitted that they understand the implications of not travelling to Congo as the team may be fined and banned for two years.
Gor needed intervention of former Presidential candidate Peter Kenneth to honour their preliminary round fixtures against CNaPs of Madagascar a month ago.
