KENYA-POLICE-2The national police vetting exercise commenced Tuesday morning with revelations of a senior police officer being forced to operate in a car park for five months.

Peter Eragae who was first to appear before the vetting panel, revealed that former police commissioner Major-General Hussein Ali locked him out of office for five months.

He told the Johnston Kavuludi led commission that at one point he contemplated resigning but the then Permanent Secretary Francis Kimemia urged him to continue working.

The panel was forced to adjourn for 30 minutes in what kavuludi termed as housekeeping process to lay down rules and regulations on how the panel will conduct its future vetting.

The second to be vetted was Francis Omondi Okonya, a Senior Deputy Commissioner I who at one point was put to task to explain why he approved annual leave for 90 days to a senior police officer who apparently is yet to be deployed after being transferred from north eastern.

The process of vetting senior police officers ends Wednesday.
