Mathare United football club has got now all reasons to smile after they landed a lucrative sponsorship deal from Britam. The sponsorship deal worth KShs 75 million will be spread over the next three years and will cover players’ salaries and allowances, coaching staff salaries and allowances, team official’s salaries and allowances, club logistics as well as fully kitting the team with new set of Britam branded jerseys.
Speaking during the official unveiling of the sponsorship package, Britams Group Managing Director, Dr. Benson Wairegi said that the partnership deal with Mathare united FC demonstrates the company’s commitment towards football and other sporting activities across the country.
“As a leading diversified financial services group, Britam is very proud to be associated with leading clubs in the Kenyan premier league, and we are looking forward to a long lasting relationship with Mathare united FC”,said Dr Wairegi.
Mr Wairegi further noted that the current Mathare united FC squad possesses the pedigree to finish in the top five of this year’s Kenyan premier league and eventually in the coming years, with right investment, emulate the 2008 squad that clinched the Kenya premier league title.

Now thanks to Britam, we can keep our best plyers and return to the top of KPL. In 1998 MUFC wasn’t even in the top league but still won the national Moi Golden Cup. Before the match the media called us “the slum Boys”,But after winning the Cup, the media had to call us the defending champions. With Britams new support, MUFC will soon be the defending champion” once again”.
Mathare FC founder further urged his fans that their favorite team has now a right drive and support as well as the right partner in Britam to fire the club back to succeed and he believes that better results will be attained.

Mathare United FC was started in 1994 and won promotion to the premier league in 1998.the football club was eventually crowned as the Kenya Premier league winners in 2008 and it is apparently top ten in the Kenya premier league.
