Lionel Messi scored twice and fed up Neymar in the last 13 minutes as Barcelona beat Bayern Munich 3-0 in the Champions League semifinal first leg, ensuring Pep Guardiola’s Camp Nou ending crying.
The Argentine continued to shine in the world of soccer as a professional dedicated footballer in the continent of Europe over the years and it is like Pep Guardiola predicted before the match that it was impossible to stifle Messi, but goalkeeper Manuel Neuer’s hurried free-kick that gifted Barcelona the lead was very avoidable.
Manuel Neuer had tried his best to keep Bayern in the game with a string of fine saves, but his efforts bore no fruits was as Messi drilled home the opener from the edge of the area in the 77th minute and then delightfully chipped the German three minutes later.
Messi then fed Neymar in stoppage time to roll past Neuer and hand Bayern an almost impossible task in next week’s second-leg.
“Bayern did well for a long time,” Guardiola, whose side restricted Barca to their lowest possession in a Champions League game since 2006, told reporters.
“After the 1-0 it sapped our confidence a bit, the last goal is a shame because at 2-0 we had a chance but 3-0 is difficult.” said Bayern boss Guardiola, a former Barca coach.
The yesterday’s victory moves Barcelona FC a step closer to just the second treble of Champions League, La Liga and Copa del Rey in the club’s football history.
Guardiola is Barca’s most successful ever coach having won 14 trophies in four years between 2008 and 2012 and was given a heroic reception by the home fans as he took his seat for the first time in the away dugout.
