Day four in the Glass House in Nairobi. In this report we look for the urgency of this year’s theme to the Serious Request campaign. The Glass House in Kenya collects sanitary pads. It may sound like a non-issue, but in the report we meet a young school girl in the slum of Sinai who explains how she and her age mates often don’t get sanitary pads during their menstruation, because their parents can’t or don’t want to pay for them.
They are forced to use cotton or even pieces of a mattress to stop the bleeding, not without health risks. Many girls miss three to four school days every month.
The report also shows images of day four at the glass house. One of the popular segments of the programming outside is the stilt race in which men and women compete.
