
A senior National Intelligence Service officer has been shot dead in Mombasa by unknown assailants.
Police say the NIS officer, Hashim Omar Ali was shot five times by two, hooded gunmen, at around 8pm as he left Hanifa Mosque, in Old Town on Thursday.
Coast Regional Police Commander Robert Kitur says the gunmen escaped on foot following the incident.
Ali was rushed to Pandya Hospital by good Samaritans where he succumbed to his injuries.
The officer who is based in Nairobi had arrived in Mombasa three days ago. Police said the gunmen had been trailing him for some time.
