The National Assembly on Thursday voted to kick out officials who have been running the anti-corruption commission.
While the Executive was accused of harassing three commissioners: Mr Mumo Matemu, Ms Irene Keino and Ms Jane Onsongo, the Legislature yesterday targeted the secretariat by sending home the Chief Executive and his deputy, who have been overseeing the processing of high profile cases that the President made public in March.
The National Assembly voted 70-39 to send home Ethics and Anti-Corruption Commission (EACC) Chief Executive Halakhe Waqo and his deputy, Michael Mubea.
Opposition Deputy Whip Chris Wamalwa rallied 70 MPs to endorse his amendment to a Bill sponsored by the Justice and Legal Affairs Committee originally aimed at increasing the number of commissioners, and making them serve part-time.
Now the outcome depends on the President, who may choose to assent to the Bill or return it to the members with a memorandum.
