
A 30-year-old man is in custody after E’Dena Hines was found early on Sunday morning in New York
The step-granddaughter of actor Morgan Freeman was stabbed to death on a Manhattan street early on Sunday morning, according to police.
E’Dena Hines, 33, was found shortly before 3am in the Washington Heights neighbourhood of New York City. There were multiple stab wounds to her upper body.
She was transported to Harlem Hospital, where she was pronounced dead.
A 30-year-old man was arrested at the scene and taken to a local hospital. Police have not yet released the indentity of the suspect, and said the motive was unknown.
He screamed, “Get out, devils! I cast you out, devils! In the name of Jesus Christ, I cast you out,” according to George Hudacko, 65, who saw the attack from his window.
Miss Hines was the granddaughter of Mr Freeman’s first wife, Jeannette Adair Bradshaw, whom he divorced in 1979 after 12 years of marriage.
Mr Freeman released a statement saying he regretted that “the world will never know her artistry, and how much she had to offer”.
