Manchester United were forced to share the spoils in a hard fought 0-0 draw against Newcastle United in an early kick off match at Old Trafford on Saturday.
Manchester United’s Wayne Rooney had found the net in the first quarter of the hour before the officials rightly dissallowed it for offside. The skipper has not scored for the English team in this campaign and all the pressure is mounted on him since the club is yet to sign a striker before the deadline next month.
However the Red devils perfect start to the new season came to an early end as they had an uphill task to break Steve McClarens’s men who managed to maintain the pressure from the opponents home fans. Memphis Depay, the £25m summer signing proved his worth as the winger provided awsome opportunities for the home team.
Newcatle are so far the fifth biggest spenders in Europe and second in the English Premier League. Striker Aleksandar Mitrovic had arguably the best chance of the game, striking the bar with a powerful header after beating Darmian to the ball, the £13M Serbia forward already looking a sound investment. Fellow new signings Georgio Wijnaldum and Florian Thauvin, the latter coming on as a sustitute, made decent contributions, while goalkeeper Tim Kraul provided proof of his enduring value with key saves in either half, first from Mata and then from sub Hernandez, with just a few minutes remaining in the game
Fabricio Coloccini made some heroic challenges as Newcastle secured a first clean sheet of the season, including his block in the closing stages to deny Antonio Valencia.
