Five years might have passed since the Nakumatt Downtown fire but to these friends and families the tragedy is as fresh as yesterday.
Grief and sadness written all over their faces the families on Tuesday gathered to pay tribute to their loved ones who perished in the tragedy that killed 27 people.
To some the loss is still very unbearable that they are lost for words to describe their feeling.
“My daughter Faith Kasiva was all i had…” said one elderly woman amid sobs.
But those who could shared fond memories of their loved ones and the challenges they have had to undergo to overcome their loss.
“I lost both my mum and dad in the tragedy. It has been tough for me and my siblings since their demise but we are trying to cope with the loss,” says Susan Kamau.
“My wife and sister in law perished in this fire and the fact that am still running up and down the corridors of justice following their death, does nothing but open fresh wounds,” said Willy Chesbol.
Chesbol said the only way they are ever going to get closure for the loss of their loved ones is by the court expediting the law suit they filed seeking compensation for their loss.
“Nakumatt already received their compensation why havent we as families of the victim been compensated yet?” he posed.
