A group of youth in Gachie Town is working on a strategy to attach a new name to the town which is famously known for crime.
The youth group known as G Town mtaani is planning to give Gachie a town in the outskirts of Nairobia new name known as G Town.
The groups chairman Peter says already there are people who have already embraced the idea and have started naming their business premises G – Town.
Speaking to Ghetto Radio News Mutheinzi says the idea to rebrand the town came as a way of shaking off the criminal activities and negative perceptions many people have attached to the town.
“Any time you say you are from Gachie, a certain stereotype is added on your name one thinks that you are either a robber or a drug dealer,” said Mutheinzi.
According to Muthenzi many youth from the area have lost many job and investment opportuniyies by their mere attachment to Gachie.
He says right now the group is using the social media and art performances in order to popularize the name.
“We have done some few performances at Sarakasi using the name G – Town and so far the reception has been well because many people liked it,” said Mutheinzi.
