Kenya National Union of Nurses has issued a seven-day strike notice, accusing the Government of illegally altering their terms and conditions of service.
The nurses say that the Government is allegedly ‘harassing’ them and other health workers without any regard to their constitutional rights.
The union says its members who had received their county pay slips were shocked to realize that uniform, hardship and medical risk allowances had not been paid while others were slashed.
The union’s secretary general Seth Panyako claims that the Government did not consult or give its members reasons behind the reductions in writing as required by the Constitution.
He further accuses the Transition Authority, Ministry of Health and Public Service Commission (PSC) of working together to unconstitutionally dismantle the national healthcare referral system.
