Chief Justice Willy Mutunga
Chief Justice Willy Mutunga has appealed to the National Assembly of Kenya to increase its budgetary allocation to the Judiciary.
Speaking during the launch of report on the state of judiciary and administration of Justice Mutunga says the money currently allocated to the Judiciary is way below the internationally agreed benchmark of 2.5 per cent of the National budget.
The CJ stated that additional allocation of funds to the Judiciary would help the institution fully meet the necessary transformation required by the constitution.
Mutunga however noted the tremendous progress made by court officials to mitigate and preside over the backlog of old cases in the courts.
