The ongoing supremacy battles between governors and senators will threaten devolution, warns Wabukala

wabukalaAnglican Church of Kenya (ACK) archbishop Eliud Wabukala has warned that the ongoing supremacy battles between governors and senators is threatening devolution in the country.

Wabukala says individual political interests especially regarding the impeachment of Embu governor and the summoning of governors by the senate over misappropriation of funds was negatively affecting devolution.

He has further taken issue with senate’s disregard of a court order barring it from proceeding with Wambora’s impeachment process terming it as a requisite to anarchy.

“The strained relation between the governors, and the senators and the members of the county assembly is threatening devolution. We are concerned that devolution agenda is being negatively affected by individuals political interests which are dividing the counties”

Speaking to the press, Wabukala also called on the county governments to utilize the funds they have been allocated to champion development agendas as well as come up with proper monitoring mechanisms on how the funds are used.

“The government has allocated significant tax payers resources to counties to fund the respective development agenda in the counties, it is worrying however to see that most of the counties are yet to make progressive strides in their proposed development plans”
