Coca-cola announces 8.6million sponsorship for 2014 Kenya Open

Peter Njonjo- Coca-Cola General Manager East Africa,  Mona W.Karingi - Marketing Manager -Kenya, and Peter Kanyago- Chairman -Kenya Open Golf Limited ,The Barclays Kenya Open Championship continues to receive sponsorships towards the 2014 Barclays Kenya Open.

Kenya Open Golf Limited (KOGL) chairman; peter kanyago today received a cash cheque of kshs. 8.6 million From Coca-Cola general manager, east Africa, Peter Njonjo.

The Kenya open had earlier received sponsorship from Crown Paints to meet costs for their caddy fee, golf shoes, T-shirts, golf bags, towels, and gloves among other equipment.

Receiving the sponsorship cheque, the  Kenya open golf limited chairman Peter Kanyago thanked Coca-Cola for their continues support, saying that this the 5th year Coca-Cola has sponsored golf, for the past four years Coca-Cola has been the official water sponsor through its bottle water Dasani but this year they are doing it through their coke brand.

“We are particular grateful for your gesture which will go a long way in ensuring that the 2014 Barclays Kenya open is a success and I urge all Kenyan’s to come in a large number and watch the match”. Said Kanyago.

This year’s tournament will be played from 6th to 9th march at the Karen golf club. The Barclays Kenya open will again host 2 pro-am events to give the local amateur more opportunities to play with the international and local pros.

A platinum sponsor, Coca-Cola has been accorded title sponsorship of one of the two pro-am events to be played at Muthaiga Golf Club on Wednesday march 5th.

The pro-am offers an opportunity for Kenyan amateur golfers to play with professionals on their own turf.

The format of play involves a 3- ball of one professional and 2 amateur.

Coca-Cola general manager Peter Njonjo said that Coca-Cola will hydrate all players and spectators during the pro and the main tournament.

 “Like we have done with our sponsorship of sports here in Kenya and elsewhere we hope not only to hydrate players and spectators but to bring lasting memories to new talents”. Said Njonjo.

The winner will get prize money of € 200,000 up from € 190,000 last year.

The Barclays Kenya open is part of the European Golf Tour with a high level of visibility globally. Several local and international players will be gunning for the top prizes and a chance to play in the European PGA.
