In the Kenya Rugby Union elections that were conducted yesterday, Philip Jalango dislodged the incumbent Sasha Mutai in the vice Chairman’s position by a single vote in an event that took place at the RFUEA Grounds. In a close contest In, Jalang’o got 22 votes against Mutai’s 21, Eddie Omondi from Nondescript RUFC won the secretary general’s contest with 32 votes against Ochieng Ahaya who garnered 11 votes.
Peninah Wahome (Blak Blad), Denis Ombui (Kakamega RFC) and Moses Ndale (KCB) were elected to serve in the board after garnering 34, 33 and 20 votes respectively.
On his victory Jalango thanked the members for having faith in him “The people have spoken and democracy has ruled. What is remaining now is to grow the sport,” Jalang’o said.
Chairman Mwangi Muthe who went to the elections unopposed welcomed the new members into the team asking them to brace themselves for the task ahead “I am happy to see that we now have senior lawyers in the board. They will be critical in reviewing our constitution which is at an advanced stage,” he said.
Muthee said the board had done it’s best to cut the annual deficit from Sh.13 million in 2012 to Sh.3 million in 2013 promising positive figures this year. He said accountability was the biggest milestone for the board defending members against any embezzlement accusations.
Western Bulls, Kabras Sugar and Comras were formally accepted as KRU affiliates to increase the number from 43 to 46. The delegates also unanimously ratified PKF to continue serving as the union’s auditor.
