The women’s rugby team that is set to represent the country in the upcoming HongKong series tournament that is set to kick off from 28th to 30th March has been unveiled at the RFUEA grounds.
The team which has been drawn in the same pool with France and China has witnessed only one change is expected to leave the country on Monday 24th bearing in mind the tough fixture that awaits them.
While naming the squad, the team’s head coach, Kevin Wambua acknowledged the task ahead is tough but insists that the team is well prepared to face what awaits them in china saying that they are well prepared.
“We have been training hard, focusing on strength and conditioning, skill sharpening skills as well as defense, attack and how to tackle opponents” Wambua said. He also confirmed that the team selected was done based on the targets that it had put in place.
Kenya plays against well ranked teams in the world a factor that has made the head coach to target making it through from the group stage first, something that has seen him make a tactical change on the team to improve on the overall performance .
But the team has had its fair share of challenges in its preparations for the tournament, being its first at such level, one of them being lack of enough friendlies due to an inactive women’s rugby league in the country.
And as it jets out on Monday, the women’s team is thankful for the sponsorship awarded to them by Safaricom who have made it possible and also played a major role in the upcoming car tournament that will take place in the course of the year.
