The Department of Children’s Services is being blamed for laxity in responding to to reported cases of abandoned children.
Speaking to Ghetto radio news, Jared Okoth who is a paralegal based at Kamukunji claims to have picked an abandoned infant in Majengo on 23rd March but was advised by the Children’s Officer at the area’s district county offices to take care of the child until the parents were found.
However Okoth alleges that the officer later took the child away from him after he went to the media to try and get the child’s parents.
According to Okoth leaving abandoned children in the hands of strangers puts their lives at risk further challenging department of children’s services in the country to put in place measures to protect such children.
