At least 10 people were killed in a fresh attack in Mpeketoni on Monday night by suspected Al Shabaab militants.

Lamu County Commissioner Stephen Ikua confirmed the latest attack, which has raised the death toll to over 60, following Sunday’s initial attack.
According to Interior Cabinet Secretary Joseph Ole Lenku the attackers destroyed Safaricom communication equipment and jammed the network.
Meanwhile angry residents gathered at Lake Kenyatta area this morning and called for immediate action as they sought audience with Ole Lenku.
Speaking at the venue, Lenku asserted that the killings were politically motivated, adding that they had reliable intelligence that similar attacks might occur in other parts of the country.
