The Centre for Multi Party Democracy (CMD) donated playing kits worth over Kshs1 million to Kenya hockey under 16 ladie’s team on Saturday in Nairobi Kenya at the City Park stadium.
Kenya Hockey Union (KHU) assembled an under 16 national side aimed at qualifying for the 2020 Olympic Games in Moscow, Russia that was presented with the kits by CMD chairman James Omingo Magara.
CMD Executive Director Njreri Kabeberi said that they are aiming at supporting under 16 teams to increase the capacity and number of team sports to represent Kenya at the 2022 Fifa World Cup in Qatar, and the Olympic Games in Rio De Janeiro (2016) and Tokyo 2020.
“Apart from football we are also involved in a programme empowering hockey and rugby teams for three years in the partnership and will review thereafter the possibility of including other sporting disciplines in 2016,” she said.
Kabeberi added that the programme titled ‘Towards Accountable Management of Sports in Kenya’ is managed by tripartite partnership between CMD, Strathmore University and Sports International which is being supported by the Kingdom of Netherlands Embassy in Nairobi.

Meshack Senge now head coach team Kenya is the ‘big’ man behind the success of the scorpions and gladiators, ladies’ and men’s hockey teams respectively at Strathmore University.
The team of 23 players was will be handled by Meshak Senge as head coach assisted by Josephine Ataro in a squad consisting of three goalkeepers, seven defenders, seven midfielders and six forwards.
Senge said the players will be training together and will be exposed for experience through local and international matches from an early age and added that, “If we are able to have this players together for at least the next three years they will gel and have their talents nurtured from an early age to make it possible for the team to qualify for the Moscow games.This initiative is timely but was long overdue.”
The squad comprises of Natasha Maria, Cassandra Dacha, Virginia Wanyee, Sandra Odera, Hanna Wasidiwa, Bavis Mwenesi (Moi Girls Nairobi School).Nouvelle Awino, Jane Muragu, Eva Hilda, Lyn Mumbi, Ruth Adhiambo Jane Nzula, Grace Muchiri, Margaret Muthoni, Lucy Wacera (Kerugoaya Girls Secondary School), Valerian Kariuki (Loreto Girls), Mary Ann Kimani Florence Karanja (Mount Laverna, Kasarani).
The players from the KHU Development XI Mitchelle Akoth, Ivy Gitonga and Georgia Fernandes also form the team.
