The United Nations has commended Ghetto Radio’s Supadada initiative that has seen hundreds of girls benefit from free sanitary towels since the beginning of the year.
While marking the International Day of the Girl Child, the UN commended Ghetto Radio’s effort of empowering the girl child and ensuring that she stays in school.
In appreciating Ghetto Radio’s Effort the station and some of the girls who benefited from the initiative were invited at the UN headquarters to mark the girl child’s day.
UNFPA Country Office Deputy Representative Gift Mulanga encouraged the girls to work hard in school and learn how to protect themselves from abuse.
Ghetto Radio’s Managing Director Jullius Owino also encouraged the girls to not only concentrate on white collar jobs but to also take up entrepreneurship.
The thousands of sanitary pads distributed by Ghetto Radio were contributed by Ghetto Radio fans during last year’s Supadada initiative.
