Sewer water has flooded several houses and business premisses in Nairobi’s Zimmerman area posing a great health risk to the residents.
The filthy water of raw human waste which entered more than ten houses and shops has stagnated there for more than five days without any action from the leaders and the local authorities.
Jane Njeri one of the affected victims says they have been forced to operate in their houses using gumboots to protect themselves from the human waste.
“Three people have already fallen sick, we had to contribute money to take them back home so that they can recuperate from there,” says Njeri.
“The chief came here in the morning but did nothing. We cannot move our property because there is no way we can move them,” she added.
According to Njeri the sewer water diverted into their houses after a local church and a mosque blocked the sewer line the water used to pass.
The area’s MCA Pius Mwaura who visited the residents yesterday promised to give a solution to the problem before the end of the day.
The church and the mosque could not be reached for comment. Ghetto Radio was barred from accessing both premises.
