Peter Kosgey is this year’s Standard Chartered Nairobi men marathon winner with Eunice Jeptoo winning the women edition.
Kosgey clocked 2:12:24 just 4 seconds before Elisha Kiprop and 20 seconds before Weldon Korir who came third at 2:12: 44.
In the women’s race Irene Kwambai and Janet Cheruiyot were 1st and 2nd runners up respectively.
The marathon is the flagship project for the ‘seeing is believing’ community initiative that aims to raise funds for the needy in the community aimed at eradicating avoidable and curable blindness.
The marathon has been in existence since 2003 and has seen the highest entry this year with a total of 17,000 people participating.
Serious traffic snarl ups have been experienced on the city roads as most routes were closed for the marathon.
Traffic was diverted from Mombasa road, Langata road and along Uhuru highway.
Top winners of the marathon have been awarded 1.5 million shillings each.
CITIZEN
