Three thousand golfers across 13 countries are expected to grace the Kenya airways golf safari 2014/2015 series set to kick off on Saturday at Kenya Railways golf club in Nairobi.
Speaking during the launch of the of the five month long tournament in Nairobi on Friday, Mbuvi Gunze said “Kenya airways will donate 1.5 million Kenya shillings to Kenya golf union as we try to grow and develop golf in Kenya.
Kenyan golfers in this series will also have a chance to put Kenya on the international map of golfing,” the incoming Kenya airways CEO said.
Kenya golf union chairman Peter Warui was upbeat that Kenya golfers will triumph in this series, “15 teams will kick off the tournament tomorrow. With the stiff competition expected, we are hoping that this will bring out the best in Kenyan golfers and hopefully we will win in at home next year in march,” an optimistic Warui said.
The tournament set to have its finals on 26th march 2015 in Nairobi will be played in 5 legs across Uganda, China, Zambia, Ghana, Hong Kong, Zimbabwe, Nigeria, Thailand, Seychelles, Ethiopia and South Africa. 28 clubs are expected to participate in the series.
The Winner of the tournament will take home the KQ golf safari 2014/2015 title and a golf holiday for two to watch the British open. The English masters will be staged at the old course St Andrews in July 2015.
