Kenya women’s volleyball national team has signed a deal worth 14 million Kenya shillings per year for the next three years with National Oil Company in Nairobi on Wednesday.
Present at the function was guest of honor, cabinet secretary Hassan Wario who said, ” I urge more corporations to come out and sponsor sports in Kenya. The problem however lies with federations. Most corporations do not sponsor sports in Kenya because of accountability issues,” he said emphasizing that federations in Kenya should be clean so that they can be trusted.
Representing the federation also was national vice president Martin Makokha who urged the government to get more involved in sports in terms of sponsorships. “We really need the government to come on board. By doing so, our players will be getting more exposure and experience necessary to shape the senior teams.”
Wario has promised Kenyans that the government will put proper sporting infrastructures to enable Kenyan sports men and women excel. The Kenya women’s’ volleyball national side has once again qualified for next year’s grand prix.
