
Four people died in Mombasa Monday night after armed youths attacked residents of Kisauni in protest against raids on two mosques on Monday.
According to police, the group attacked residents of Kisauni with crude weapons and engaged police officers in a confrontation.
Kisauni Police Boss Richard Ngatia said that more than twenty youths have been arrested following the attacks and will be arraigned in court Tuesday.
The incident comes a day after several people were arrested and one person killed during a raid that was carried out targeting Masjid Musa and Sakina in Majengo and Kisauni area on Monday.
Mombasa OCPD Geoffrey Mayek confirmed the raid saying it was a security operation.
Police also said that they recovered knives, pistols and grenades during the operation that commenced at around 2 am on Sunday.
Police believe the attackers are sympathisers of the Al Shabaab terror group.
