Womens Right Awareness Programme, an organisation that deals with protection of women rights says, cases of sexual violence against women have sharply increased in Nairobi County.
The organisation’s Legal council Vitallis Musungu says in the past four months alone, they have received three hundred and sixteen cases of sexual violence against women and girls in Nairobi.
Musungu added that they are afraid these numbers will increase if measures are not taken to protect women in the County.
He further revealed that in the same period they have also received another one hundred cases of physical violence against women and girls.
He goes on to say that their survey also revealed that perpetrators of sexual violence are well known to the victims.
Another interesting revelation Musungu made was that teachers in schools are the ones physically abusing children.
