
The East African Bribery Index report 2014 has ranked the Kenya National Police Service as the most affected by bribery.
The Police Service was ranked first at 71.1 per cent while tax Services was second at 31.4 per cent followed by the County Administration at 25.9 per cent.
Nationally the Kenya National Police Service received the biggest share of bribes and almost accounted for almost half of all the bribes paid at 43.5 per cent.
Majority of those who interacted with The Kenya National Police Service felt that if they had not paid a bribe, they would not have received the services they were seeking similar to those interacting with Lands Services and the Judiciary
The report described the current rate of corruption in the country as high because 54 per cent of them felt that corruption had increased within the last 12 months.
Transparency International Executive Director Samuel Kimeu said more awareness should be done on the role of the public in the fight against corruption.
