Chaos erupted in the National Assembly this morning as MPs heckled and threw papers, forcing speaker Justin Muturi to suspend the debate on the controversial Security Laws (Amendment) Bill 2014.
Attempts by National Security Committee chairman Asman Kamama to propose amendments to the law were opposed as MPs chanted the ‘Bado Mapambano’
Trouble started when Gem MP Jakoyo Midiwo and his Ruaraka counterpart Tom Kajwang’ asked the speaker to give them more time to go through suggested changes to a number of laws related to national security but were overruled by the speaker who insisted they should have read the laws before they came to the floor of the House.
Orderlies surrounded the Mace amid fears it could be grabbed. Speaker Muturi was then forced to suspend the house for at least half an hour.
