kaparoSixty three per cent of the counties are employing people from the dominant ethnic groups in their areas, a new survey has revealed.

A draft of a survey by the National Cohesion and Integration Commission (NCIC) titled ‘Ethnic and Diversity Audit of Counties 2015′ indicates that since 2013, 97.9 per cent of vacancies in Bomet and Nyamira counties have been filled by people from Kalenjin and Kisii communities respectively.

Among the top counties showing this trend include Kirinyaga with 97.8 per cent vacancies being filled by members of the Kikuyu community, Elgeyo Marakwet (97.6 per cent Kalenjin) and Kisii with 97.5 per cent of employees coming from the Kisii community.

In an analysis of tribe and cohesion in Kenya’s public institutions, including ministries and public universities since the enactment of the NCIC Act in 2008, NCIC also revealed that NCIC would also audit employment policies in Parliament and the Judiciary to establish compliance with relevant laws on discrimination, domination and exclusion.

NCIC chairman Francis ole Kaparo railed at politicians and public officials, accusing them of war-mongering, promoting discrimination and inciting hatred.
