Rhoda, Hustle Friday winner

Rhoda , a local laundry cleaner from Shauri Moyo could not hold her joy as when Ghetto radio’s breakfast crew Brekko visited her on Thursday to award her prize money for the weekly ‘Hustle Friday’ promotion.

Beating all odds to scoop the kshs 2000 prize money and kshs500 airtime from Ghetto radio, Rhoda was further awarded Kshs 2000 more from Post Bank with the bank’s NACICO branch along Landhies road opening an account for her loaded with another kshs 10,000.

Speaking to Ghetto radio, NACICO branch manager Patrick Mutisya says he hopes this will encourage youth across the country to open accounts and embrace the saving culture.

“ We have a youth friendly account which caters for those between the ages of 18 to 28 years which has a minimum balance of kshs 200 and the account holder gets to have a free ATM card”, he said.

‘Hustle Friday’ which popular amongst Ghetto Radio fans awards youth entrepreneurs in the informal settlements who submit their daily hustle stories to ‘Brekko’ show on Fridays and fans get to choose their winner through social media or by calling live on air.

“I have been washing clothes for over a year now since I was tired of living as pauper as before. Now I earn approximately kshs 600 daily depending on the client or the heap of clothes”, says Rhoda, adding that her main challenge is frequent robbery of attire on the drying lines, as this makes her customers reduce her wages.

Rhoda who loves her career hopes to boost her business with prize money by opening a laundry store where she can handle more customers.

Mutisya however advised her on future business plans urging her to keep tabs of her growing business as well as be conscious on her spending. He also encouraged her not to rush for micro-finance loans but to wait until her income makes a substantial increase.

Rhoda was thankful to Ghetto Radio 89.5, Extreme Sports Limited and Post Bank Kenya for supporting youth through such an initiative and at the same time challenged more young women to venture into different businesses.
