Kenyan captain and Southampton midfielder Victor Wanyama has declined to discuss a new contract with the club. The 24-year-old feels his contribution to the team has also been undervalued and has held discussions with the club and made it clear his future lies away from St Mary’s.
However Tottenham have been keen on the player and are ready to cash on him but Ronald Koeman this week said he was not for sale.
The Kenya international who was signed from Celtic for £12.5million in 2013 has two years left on his contract and Southampton now values him at around £18m.
It is understood Wanyama has been unhappy for some time on the south coast and was further unsettled following a burglary at his home last year which has contributed to him wanting to make a fresh start.
The news will come as a blow to Koeman who is fighting to keep his squad together amid interest from Manchester United in Sadio Mane also.
He was a regular starter under Mauricio Pochettino and formed a formidable midfield partnership with Morgan Schneiderlin inprotecting their back four, yet he was dropped on three occasions by Koeman last season which left him to question his role under the Dutch coach.
