Kenya was humbled by the Dominican Republic by conceding in all three straight sets of 28-26, 26-24 and 25-17 as they struggled through their second defeat in a row in the ongoing FIVB Volleyball Women’s World Cup at the Yoyogi National Stadium yesterday morning.
The Dominican republic were extremely tactical in the first set as they took the lead in a 4-1 dominance edging out Kenya team who later recovered from their littered concentration to narrow the gap to a 5-4.
The Dominicans fared well against the nine-time African Champions in blocks and serves, but edged the latter in attacks 50-37. David Lung’aho side managed to maintain the pressure from their opponents by taking the lead from a crucial service ace that saw them at 8-7 at the first technical timeout. Gina Altagracia Mambru Casilla spearheaded the Dominican Republic victory in the first round by hitting 17 points.
Kenyan side maintained a hard fight as they sought to topple the opponents but it was all in vain as Dominican Republic emerged the victor by securing a two-point advantage at the end of the first set ending in 28-26.
